Tetley Cup Joy For Rylands!

Rylands 20 - Crosfields 12

RYLANDS took the amateur Rugby League Carlsberg Tetley Cup back to Gorsey Lane after a dazzling display against near neighbours Crosfields at Wilderspool.

Mark Forster's men took the lead when Neil Evans touched down in the corner following a Peter Leonard kick.

The try stung National Conference League side Crosfields into action.

They began to show their class and they led at half-time thanks to tries by Dean Reynolds and Richard Hough.

Rylands hit back at the start of the second half when Paul Clayton spun out of three tackles to force his way over the line.

Leonard converted to put Rylands 10-8 ahead and they extended their advantage when the same player laid a try on a plate for Andy Matthews.

Phil Bannon then squeezed in at the corner to reduce Crosfields' deficit to two points and set up a thrilling finale.

Extra time looked a certainty when Rylands were penalised for stealing the ball in the tackle with only three minutes left on the clock.

Mike Redmond was 20 yards out and bang in front of the posts but he pushed his kick wide of the right hand upright.

Crosfields launched their final attack from the resulting drop out but Andy Moulsdale seized upon a poor pass and he raced 50 metres to score a cup-clinching try.

Leonard tagged on the extras to rubber stamp a deserved victory for Rylands.

The man of the match award went to Rylands captain Ian Ward. He was pushed close by teammates Matthews, Andy Smith, Clayton and Paul Bagley while prop Terry Reid shone for Crosfields.
